Kyle Seager, (3B,2B SEA) – Second baseman turned third baseman, Seager was recently called up to replace Chone Figgins at third base.
In 321 at bats so far this season in the minors, Seager maintained a stellar average of .336 with six homers, but his 29 doubles show his potential to grow into some power.
Speaking of Figgins, don’t be surprised when you see this guy get swooped up by a team in need of a lead-off batter. He could be a nice pick-up if he goes to the right team.
Mike Napoli, (1B TEX) - In four starts since returning from the DL, Napoli hit two homers and drove in eight batters.
He sits at 12 HR with 33 RBI at the break. Gotta love the fact that he doesn’t spend all his time getting beat up behind the plate, and should see consist ant play-time between 1B, DH and Catcher.
Tyler Flowers (C CHW) – Just called up from Triple-A Charlotte, where he hit .261 with 15 homers, 32 RBI in 222 at bats so far this season.
Flowers was called to replace Ramon Castro, who broke his hand, and will most likely share the Catchers role with A.J. Pierzynski, but he should definitely be owned in any keeper league.
Eduardo Nunez (3B NYY) Given the fact that A-Rod will be out for at least four to six weeks undergoing surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his knee, Nunez gains instant fantasy value. He will bat in one of the most hitter-friendly parks for one of the most powerful line-ups in baseball. Eligibility at the shallow corner is good, and he won’t kill your batting average.
Emilio Bonifacio (OF,2B,3B FLA) 5 steals in his last 3 games, and the position eligibility of a fantasy owner’s dream. I’m going to include Tony Gwynn Jr. (OF LA) in this conversation, not because he has any eligibility upside, but because he is also a stolen base machine right now and both need to be watched closely because this could turn on you at any given moment..
Anthony Swarzak (SP MIN) I love that the Twins gave him the start Sunday night, and I love even more that he did well. I will go out on the limb and give Swarzak the benefit of the doubt. He pitched a few starts for Minnesota in 2009 and struggled but…
OK the truth is that there is no but…. I can’t even find ONE positive stat to convince anyone this guy has talent besides his outing against the White Sox on Sunday.
His minor league numbers are worse than bad, 2 and 10 so far this year with a 7.130 ERA in 111 IP. He has a K:BB ratio of freaking 46/29…. A 1.7143 Whip.
It’s bad.
So, without any valid argument to offer you, I am still going to pitch this guy if he pitches against Cleveland at home next Monday.
A Few Gut Feelings for the second half:
· Still a fan of Jonny Venters getting a good chunk of saves opportunities.
· Red Sox will acquire another SP before the trade dead-line. They will also activate Junichi Tazawa, (who is fresh from Tommy John Rehab) into the rotation.
· (Miller and Weiland will become a faint memory)
· Bryce Harper will be called up before September, Strasburg will return in September, and
The Nationals will knock you all off your barstools when they finish the season well above
